June 6...

Hey Parents and Friends,
Here is the run-down of June 6th...
Verse: 1 Corinthians 12:12: "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ."

Morning/Afternoon: Well, last day of Higher Ground and it was another beautiful day here in Lampe, MO. You can tell we are hitting a point where the girls are a tid bit tired with sports all day and fun crazy activities at night so tomorrow will be so great! (Sundays are way relaxing here at K2...they are awesome!).

* Side Note: I wanted to take a chance to share that today I got to lead a precious girl to the Lord...and get this, it was while running our mini-triathlon as we finished running our last leg UP CARDIAC HILL. It is our huge long hill at K2. Oh, man, it was like an unbelievable moment. This sweet gal I knew from last year and she finally was ready to give her life to the Lord in every way. Her whole heart! I finished and just yelled to everyone and then broke down in tears with just how the Lord works through a triathlon. It was an AWESOME moment! I wish all you parents could have seen the guys and girls rally around this sweet girl as we rang the bell (that is what we do as a symbol at K2 of someone giving their life to the Lord). Needless to say it has been my highlight of the summer thus far and it's only day 6!!!

Night: Tonight we had girls and guys tribals. The girls met in their tribes to talk through and assign jobs for the K2 girl carnival (more explanation will come). Anyways, it was great! We took our staff for some praise and worship and then some hang time. All in all it was a fun night.
Sure hope this blog thing is just allowing you to pray and know that we again are so very humbled to have your most prized possession with us for 13 or 25 days! Okay, off to bed...

Hey Parents and friends,

Today has been such a great day! As you can see from the video I got to play Bananagrams during F.O.B with cabin 12 gals! Such a blast! Today was our last day of our Higher Ground schedule (you can look back some posts to see what Higher Ground means). Tomorrow is Sunday and then we start the "normal" schedule on Monday!

June 5...

Hey Parents and Friends,
June 5th has been a great day! Great weather today. The past few days it has been beautiful with a tad bit of cold breeze. No complaints from me! It's just been such a great start to Summer 2009! Sure loving having each of your daughters here! So very thankful!

Prayed for you as parents today. Praying for wisdom and guidance as you raise daughters in such a crazy and hard time in junior high and high school worlds. Keep being the mom and dad and the best friend relationship will come later...I promise!

Here is the low down on today:

Verse: Philippians 2:2: "Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose."

Morning/Afternoon: It was a wonderful normal day of classes. Most girls have their selected specialty for 2-3 hours each day and then have some really fun electives like pool party, sand volleyball, rollerblading, and the list could go on and on.

Night: K-Life TONIGHT! All K2 kampers LOVE K-Life. I mean love it! We bring them into crazy music and jump all our energy out, then do a crazy skit of some kind, show our K-life term video (which is a spoof of Survivor...K2 style), do some fun worship, have our speaker, then more slower worship music. Tonight Joe White, our K2 director and the President of Kanakuk, will be speaking on Creation. It's so great because he really gives them some great facts and quotes from leading scientists of our day. Joe actually wrote a book called, "Darwin's Demise," about creation. Anyways, it's going to be a blast!

Hey Parents and friends,
Here are some pictures from Warball last night. The Kiowas of KOMO 13 won the whole tournament! That's our youngest monthers in KOMO 13 so they dominated even older gals! Go underdogs! :)

Sweet friends and Kiowa sisters!
Loved this picture of beautiful smiles!
This is Trish Helsel (left hand bottom corner in black pullover) with her Fitness and Nutrition gals. FitNut is a specialty the girls can take where they work out with videos, weights, walking, and water aerobics and learn how to cook yummy healthy foods! What a fun group!

June 4...

Hey Parents and Friends,
Well, I already feel like Term 1 is flying by. Here is the run down of their day:

Verse: Luke 9:23: "Then He said to them all: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.'"

Morning/Afternoon: Higher Ground is still underway and this is the 3rd day of Higher Ground. Cabin 11 & 12 had Summit this morning and Cabins 15 & 16 girls left this morning for K-Wild. K-Wild is where the 2 cabins head out to a cave a short distance away to canoe (if the water is high enough) the Buffalo, repel mountains, and do some fun cliff jumping. It's a blast and so very good for cabin bonding/unity. They stay 1 night at K-Wild.

Night: Tonight we have one of the favorite nights for the girls. We have a huge warball tournament. Warball is where two teams line up on the baselines of our tennis courts and there are dodgeballs in the center line of the courts. We start the game and take off to get the most balls. Then they start unleashing them at each other. They can't hit in the face and you can dodge them or catch them to get the other team's person who threw the ball out. It's a super fun game. The girls' two tribes play each other in a big tournament and then all the K2 girl kampers (around 240 girls) play the K2 girls staff (around 65 girls). It's hysterical!!!

Thanks for your prayers for each day with your daughters. We need them so much as we do our best to show them Christ through sports, laughter, memories, and relationships. We aren't a perfect kamp but we pray each day that the Lord would find favor in each of your girls' hearts to love Him more.

videoHey Parents,
Well, here is sweet Cabin 15 hanging out for F.O.B (flat on back, it's basically like a rest period in the hottest time in the day). I wanted to show you the cabins and bunks of where our K2 girl kampers stay. Enjoy!

Lucy Edick is the quarterback for the Kicks! Rebecca Cooper from the Kiowas might be about to pull that flag!
This is me (on the left) running with a precious triathlete gal, Alyssa Albritton. She is awesome and has a great goal, dream, of making her running team for ROTC at her school. Caitlin Fairly, a counselor/coach for us, is running with us!

Look at these beautiful smiles on the K2 treetops (what we call Summit). Summit is a great activity to bond a cabin and get over some fears sometime.

Here are 3 gals cheering on the Kicks with capes and facepainting. They love their tribes!

June 3...

Hey parents and friends,
Well, here is your daily run-down of your daughter's day.

Verse: Ephesians 2:8-9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves. It is the gift of God, not by works so that no man can boast."

Morning/Afternoon: The first 5 official days (not counting June 1) we call Higher Ground. It's basically a chance for gals to have 2 different specialties and to pick from some only offered during Higher Ground: fin & feather, sea & ski, scuba, and cheer. Well June 3 was our first full day of Higher Ground and it was a blast. This term of girls is so excited and we are having a ball!

Afternoon: We had our first Tribal competition. On Tuesday night, June 2, the girls that did not have a Kanakuk tribe were given one and welcomed in to the Kickapoo or Kiowa tribe. It is a fun night because each girl is given a "big sis" in the tribe. So fun! Cabin 19 & 20 girls played football (girl version) while all the kicks and kiowas cheered their team on. The Kiowas pulled out the win but the Kickapoos got the spirit points.

Night: We had our first official K-Life. My husband, the K2 Men's Director, spoke on Heaven. He centered it around Philippians 3:14 of knowing our prize. He used great laughter to show K2 teenagers that heaven is our final destination. It was awesome (obviously I am somewhat biased :).

Side Note: I am currently on a 24 (24 hours of break from Kamp) but will still fill you in on K2 but not technically there today, the 4th.

June 2...

Hey Parents,

Well here is the low down of the day:

Verse: John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"

Morning: All the girls and guys ran around K-2 having a ball! We played games with our cabin and the brother cabin. Girls got to order their clothing (hope your girls didn't spend too much of your $$$) and also took the cabin photo that they get around January/February of their cabin.

Afternoon: The girls had 2 hours with their Higher Ground specialty. Higher Ground is the 1st 5 days of the 25 day terms. Girls can pick a specialty and for 5 days they do all these fun activities with just that specialty group. After 5 days, they start their individual schedule. Higher ground is just a chance to do some other activities around K2.

Night: We have our FIRST PARTY tonight! It's MAN VS. WILD and it's going to be a blast! I am about to go set up the party with our leadership team. The girls and guys will be playing a game around all of kamp to find hidden "tribesmen" and they have to do all these "wild" games to get the clues to where they are hidden. It's a blast. I am running the "laser" game (like the scene from Entrapment where Catherine Zeta Jones crawls through all the lasers). Our lasers are just string so don't worry moms!

Okay, so day #2 update! We are having a blast and I'll have pictures up tomorrow from the party and cabin photos!

THE KAMPERS ARE HERE...

Hey Moms and Dads,
Well, you all get to be my audience in the summer since kampers are at K2. So each day or most realistically every other day I will have some great pics/videos/stories/details of all things K2 girls side so you can know what's going on. You will know the verse of the day and what the K-Life message is on! It's going to be a blast! I hope you like checking out http://www.kanakukashley.com/ each day!

Okay, so June 1st! Our opening day was a blast! We had each kamper walk out on stage in our K-dome and then got embraced by 50 crazy, super fun counselors! It was a blast! K2 is totally embracing (even our Guy staff...hysterical!) the Hannah Montana Hoe-down from her movie. Joe White wanted our staff to learn the really fun dance from the movie and it is quite a sight to see the huge football counselors singing/dancing right along to Miley Cyrus!

Picture: This is from our opening night K-Life. We leave the doors close until all the kids are waiting outside and then we turn up the music and everyone floods in! It's awesome! This was me with some girls from CABIN 20.
