June 7...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents/And all others,
Well, June 7th was our 1st rainy day of summer 2010. Our kampers tend to love rainy days as teenagers love to relax, hang with their friends, and just be teenagers. We had a great morning. This term is really amazing me to be honest. I don't know if it's from having a child or what but I feel like it has slowed me down. Now before you think we aren't the high pace, crazy K2 Kanakuk kamp...we still are. It's slowed me down in the sense of seeing people above task...knowing that kamp is under God's hand and He makes this place run, not me...it's daily seeing 15 year old girls being 15 year old girls and not having to act 27 years old. The smiles without loads of makeup, the see of tribal paint on their faces of pure fun. The tshirts every day instead of having to look a certain way. I just love what Kamp does...it's a refuge for the teenagers of America and I love that. (sorry for the random soap box! just feeling really blessed today) Here is the rundown of the day:

Women of the Bible Study: (sorry for "her name") The Bleeding Woman (I know it's not a good "name") / Mark 5:25-34
Verse: Matthew 17:20

Morning: Rainy Day Funday! We had our "yacht club" day. All the kampers/staff went back and got on silly "yacht" costumes and then we had stations: Family Feud, Bingo/PingPong/Shuffleboard/Cards, and PIT (it's like the game where you have to get 7 cards of wheat and the center of the game is like a stockmarket floor...lifesize not boardgame).

Afternoon: Today was the start of truly normal schedule for K2. Higher Ground ended yesterday so every kamper now has their own individualized schedule with classes they picked. So each class has kampers from other kabins (girls classes are all girls...we don't have co-ed classes except TriAthlete - side note that is the specialty my hubby and I run together). So we had our 4th-6th period classes today and hopefully all your daughters like their schedules and are getting to do some really cool stuff.

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT!!! The most amazing man, husband, father, and speaker is speaking tonight. Who you might ask?? SHAY ROBBINS! My husband is bringing the Word tonight on apologetics. He is so very smart, but yet relates it to a teenage level. He is awesome!

Side Note: I totally forgot to mention that during our term there are "trips" that leave to go to K-Wet and K-Wild. K-Wet is just down the road and they get to do every water activity all day and K-Wild is at a cave where they hike, climb, rapel, and have a blast in the good 'ole outdoors. All our trips are optional except for 25Day girls K-Wet trip (it's a favorite so the girls all want to go). Exception to that is if a 10 of the 11 girls in a cabin want to go on a trip we can't just have 1 girl stay back so she joins them. She always comes back having loved that she went. But if there are 9 of 11 girls that want to go then those 9 go and the 2 that didn't want to don't have too...hope that all makes sense. The trips are so GREAT for cabin bonding and just getting to know new friends. It's awesome! So some of your daughters might talk about K-Wet and K-Wild and now you can totally know what that means! Woohoo for translation of kamp lingo!

June 6 in Pictures...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents and Friends,
Well, they are a bit delayed but here are pictures from Sunday, June 6. Enjoy!

Sno-Cones on Sundays are a tradition and the kampers love it! For Sundays we combine Relaxin' and Chillin' to make every Sunday Chillax Day! It's a blast!

June 6...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents/Grandparents/Aunts/Uncles/etc,
Well, today is our first Sunday of the summer. I LOVE SUNDAYS!! We let our kampers sleep in and they have an optional breakfast buffet. It's awesome. We serve the Kanakuk favorites: coffee cake for breakfast and our fried chicken for lunch. Yummy! We have church in our K2 church which is on a mountain, not sure if that's the technical geographic name for it, that overlooks our lake...breathtaking!! We give the kampers lots of hang time with their cabin today and time to write letters (our mail is really slow so you should start getting mail soon), rest, play, and just have a ball! We will have a Sunday Funday today...but I'll tell you more about this below.

Women of the Bible Study: The girls do their own quiet time today. We don't do the official Kanakomo Bible Study book
Verse: Again, see above.

Morning: Sleep, Breakfast, Church, Chicken Letter/Hang time...Chicken letters are when we ask our kampers to write whomever sent them to kamp to say thanks. I hope if you sent your child/grandchild/niece/etc to K2 you will get a letter soon...

Afternoon: We have Sunday Funday! We will be opening our waterslide, our new Cardiac Falls Slip-n-Slide, the pool, trapeze, rings, have a 3-on-3 Basketball tournament, and more...all the kampers just pick what they want to do or just hang at the pool and eat lots of sno-cones (Sno-cones are an official Sunday tradition at K2)

Night: Tonight we have for the girls' side our Tribal night. Each of the girls now have a tribe (Kickapoo or Kiowa) and so tonight they meet as a tribe to plan what we call "Karnival." (I know everything is with a "K"). Karnival is a fun night where the girls plan games, banners, and a dance for the guy side of kamp. It's a blast!

We would love to continue to ask for prayers for your daughters. Some of you reading have sent your kids for 10 years and they love kamp, some have sent your daughter who has never been and has had a rough year, and some have sent your daughter to simply be encouraged...whatever the reason your sweet daughters are here we want to daily encourage, love and show them Jesus...Thanks for letting us be a small part of your kiddos lives!

June 5...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents,
Goodness, sorry I am late in posting June 5th...please forgive! Here is the rundown of the day...

Women of the Bible Study: Jochebed / Exodus 2:1-10 & Hebrews 11:23
Verse of the Day: Romans 8:28

Morning: Normal day of classes periods 1-3.

Afternoon: Normal day of classes periods 4-6. Today is our last day of Higher Ground since tomorrow is Sunday. Monday we begin their personalized, individual schedule that each kamper will have.

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT! Don Ford spoke at K-Life about True Love. He used clips from the movie, "The Princess Bride," which was hysterical. I pray the kids were attentive to the fact that God's love and God's best is better than anything this world can offer.

Hope all of you are doing great and please let us know if we can do anything for you or your family...

June 4 in Pictures...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents/Friends/Grandparents/etc,
Tonight was a ball...the girls were intense and there were some girls who were hard core war ball players! It was awesome! Here are some great pictures from the day to give you a small snapshot of K2 girls side!

I'm off to shower...we had watermelon for all the girls after warball so I'm a sticky mess!

June 4...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents,
Higher Ground continues and the kampers are starting to get the K2 schedule. It's now been 4 days since you dropped your daughters (and sons) off at K2. We are kicking off the summer in an awesome way with these kampers! It's been so great! Here is the down load of the day:

Women of the Bible Study: Lydia / Acts 16:6-15
Verse: Matthew 28:19-20

Morning: Higher Ground periods 1-3. Normal morning of classes.

Afternoon: Higher Ground periods 4-6. Normal afternoon classes.

Night: We are having the all time intense night of WARBALL!!! Warball is like dodgeball but decked out as Kiowas (red & white) or Kickapoos (yellow & blue) or Apache (our staff are called Apache and I think we are wearing purple). The tribes (Kiowas vs. Kickapoos) have a tournament of warball and then all the kampers play all the staff...as you can imagine there are triple the amount of kampers than staff...but it's always intense (in a good way! :)

Also tonight we are doing a new thing for seniors that just graduated and are going to college next year. We will meet just with this group of kiddos to help teach, train and prepare for college. We want to encourage these kampers to stand firm on who the Lord has made them to be. We would love prayers for this...I'll let you know how it goes...

June 3...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents,
Sorry it's 10:27 pm and I'm just getting the day's details up. We had quite a lot of "liquid sunshine" last night but it really cooled things off this morning. Here is the rundown of the day:

Woman of the Bible Study: Hannah / 1 Samuel 1:1-28
Verse: Philippians 4:6-7

Morning: 2nd Day of Higher Ground. The girls were all in classes and we had our first full day of somewhat normal kamp.

Afternoon: We had optional today which is when the girls can go to 5 places and just get some hang time. Super fun! Then they had their normal 5th and 6th periods for their Higher Ground.

Night: KLIFE!!! Woohooo!!! K2 Kampers love K-Life nights! Tonight (if it was a clear night) was Joe White's Creation Message. It's amazing!! He does a great job of relating to kiddos yet challenging them in their faith.

Thanks for your continued prayers and again sure love partnering with you as your daughter's parents to simply encourage your daughter for the time we have her! Let me know if I can do anything for you all!

June 2...

Hey Kanakuk Term 1 Parents,
Well, day 2 has begun. Today is a "non-normal" day in the sense that we haven't started our routine or their schedules yet. So here is the run down of their day:

Morning: We did our Kanakomo Guidelines that will make for a Great Term! (ex: no phones, what to wear, safety, etc) and then they just started our fun, big event. They are running around as a cabin doing silly games, getting their cabin pictures taken, swimming, and getting their kamp clothing if they want it (we have some cool stuff this year you can check it out at www.kanakuk.com).

Afternoon: We start Higher Ground. Higher Ground is the 1st 5 days of the term (for T1 25 dayers and T1 13 dayers). We offer some "special" activities they can choose from that only happen in the 1st 5 days (ex: Sea&Ski, Fin&Feather, Scuba, & Cheer). The girls will go to 2 periods this afternoon of whatever Higher Ground specialty they chose. They will stay with this same group for 4 more days doing all different activities around kamp (blob, rollerblade, tramp, waterslide, the new slip-n-slide, etc).

TONIGHT: It's our first party night! Woohoo! It's our HoeDown Showdown Party tonight! I love our western/country parties. Joe White, I mean Clint Eastwood, shows up and does some true square dance callin'. It's so much fun and every kamper gets involved b/c you don't really have to be a good dancer to dance country! It's a blast!

Sure hope you all are doing great. We again feel thankful to have your daughters here and as I look at our precious one who is playing in her bouncer I am so thankful that you entrust us with your most prized possessions...your kiddos!
