July 28...

Hey Kanakuk Friends and Families,
Well, it is presently 6:12 pm here at K2 and it's been a beautiful day! Shay and I can't get over how the Lord has just blessed us weather wise this term! Here is the scoop for you:

Verse: 2 Timothy 2:2: "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnessess entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."

Morning/Afternoon: Normal schedule. We love normal schedule. The girls (if they aren't out on K2 trip: K-Wet or K-Wild) had classes 1-6 today.

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT: Tonight Don Ford is speaking. Don is the President of AfterDark and Pure Excitement (2 sister ministries of Kanakuk that Joe speaks at college campuses and teenage towns). Awesome ministries! He is speaking tonight on Absolute Truth. It's a great message for today's teens!

Sorry that I am a little biased that TriAthlete specialty is the best...I mean I love all our specialties but there is just something about this group that becomes like family! We had a HUGE group of triathlete kampers this term and it has been awesome!
Me being silly as Shay explains "Ride & Tie."
I just LOVED this face! So intense!
Kampers are starting to catch on that I post pics on the blog and you can get them here too. Don't forget to keep checking out http://www.kanakuk.com/ for all the daily pictures!
*Disclaimer: This is not a real neck brace. This is only a costume...I repeat only a costume :)!

July 27...

Hey Kanakuk Friends and Family,
Well, it's July 27 and that means for Term 5 parents you are coming in less than 5 days! What in the world! We have had such a great term with your daughters! I will be posting the closing ceremony schedule for you all very soon! Here is the run down of the day...

Verse: 2 Timothy 4:5: "But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."

Morning/Afternoon: We had a normal day here at K2 and the girls headed to classes for 1-5 periods. We didn't have 6th period because tonight is a party!

Night: SENIOR CITIZEN SHINDIG: Wooohoo! Our K2 kids have loved this party all summer! It is so surprising because they almost all dress up! It's awesome! We played Bingo, had milk and cookies, shuffleboard, watched an episode of an old TV show, and then had a dance. The dance started off old school music and then the K2 fountain of youth hit the kids and they all were young again. It was awesome!!

July 26...

Hey Kanakuk Friends and Family,
Today was a glorious day!! It was SUNDAY!! Our first real Sunday for Term 3/5. On Sundays everything is glorious. The kampers get to sleep in till 9 am or 9:45 am because we have an "open buffet" for breakfast from 9 am to 10 am. So the kampers/staff can come anytime during that hour to eat. It's awesome! We have coffee cake of course and then have church at 10:30.
Woops...I'm giving you the run down...

Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16: "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness."

Morning: I sort of told you already...silly me! Joe White talked this morning and talked about our motto of "I'm 3rd" lifestyle. It was awesome! It is such a simple statement to say "I'm 3rd" but what if every kamper and staff really went home to their families, schools, teams and really daily lived it out! They could change the world! Then they broke up into FCA huddle groups to talk about the message with their cabins.

Afternoon: Well, with keeping in stride with our day of rest vision for teenagers for one day out of the week while at K2 we have our "Everything-you-want-in-one-day" day. We had 5 tournaments going on that you could sign up for (sand volleyball, co-ed bball, guy only bball, washers, and ping pong) while also opening up our pool (with the trapeze, rings, and diving boards) where you could get a refreshing sno-cone! We also opened up the girls gym (with air conditioning on!) where they could come watch "Saved by the Bell." Such a great show of the 90's! It was a blast of an afternoon! I'm sure you know this better than I do but I really believe the average teenager now comes to kamp for a refuge and to relax a bit from the pressures that now follow them...year round club teams for soccer, vball, and every other sport, pressure of grades and all the AP classes to get into the best college, pressure of being involved in every club and community service to have a strong resume...goodness, I'm seriously tired from typing it! :) I just love that at K2 they get to be 13 years old...or 15 years old...insert your daughter's age and I just love that for 2 weeks or 1 month they can come and have a blast at any sport, their own or a fun break from the one they play for 11.5 months of the year! You all have such a hard job of balancing and helping your child find balance in being excellent in school and sports but still letting them by your child and not letting the pressure bombard them! Know that Shay and I pray often for your roles as parents in this day in age! We are partnering with you moms and dads!!! So humbled by you all as parents of teen girls in this world!

You all have amazing daughters! I pray you keep raising a generation of godly women! Woohoo! I love my job! Thanks for sending your daughters so I can keep this job!!

July 25...

Hey Kanakuk Families,
Well, today is July 25th and it is 11:10 pm as I finish my day with the blog. I hope you are enjoying getting a little window to their world. We had a beautiful overcast day most of the morning and afternoon. It was great! Cool and breezy!

Verse: Proverbs 11:14: "For lack of guidance a nation falls, but many advisers make victory sure."

Morning/Afternoon: We had our 1st day of the 20 day (or 7 day) schedule. Each kamper now starts the individual schedule they selected on the 1st night of kamp. It's awesome! I love it when the individual schedules start. We had classes 1-5 today because tonight we had a party and on K2 party nights the girls miss 6th period to go get ready so the kuks and komos eat together.

Night: PIRATE PROM 2009. How fun this party is!!! It was rather bittersweet because tonight was for the leadership and directors our LAST Pirate Prom party. Crazy how fast the summer has flown by! Tonight they ate well with Frito Pie at K2, stations to become a male/female pirate (including getting ice cold root beer...a kamp fav!), and then got walked to the prom by their brother cabin. We had our big dance in the K2 K-dome (our basketball gym) and had counselors chosen to walk the plank (the high dive of our pool) all during the dance! Kampers loved it! These term 3/5 kampers love our K2 dances! It was a ball!

July 23 & 24 in Pictures...

This is Triathlete from the 23rd doing our triathlon! Lauren Fender went down pretty hard on a bike and had a great strawberry to prove it! She was awesome and laughed it off! Triathlete is that hard core! (Roger/Sheryl: she is fine! it's a pretty funny story!)

July 24...

Hey Kanakuk Moms and Dads,
Sorry for no pictures from July 23rd. I'm posting the 23rd's pics with the 24th's pics. So they are coming! Today was great! Here is the run down...

Verse: 1 Corinthians 12:12: "The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ."

Morning/Afternoon: We had a normal day of the last day of our 5 days of Higher Ground. Tomorrow we start our normal, individualized schedule for each kamper.

Night: Tribals. The girls had tribals tonight. Each tribe goes to the girls gym or boys gym and they plan out their "carnival." More to come on this later...

July 23...

Hey Kanakuk Friends and Family,
What a great day today has been! We have had beautiful weather!!! It's been just perfect! We are coming to an end of Higher Ground (the 1st 5 days of kamp...see July 21 for more explanation). Here is the scoop on today:

Verse: Philippians 2:2: "Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose."

Morning/Afternoon: We had a beautiful day for all 6 periods today and it was great! I know in Triathlete we had a blast lifting weights and then hitting the pool for laps! Hard core! I know all the other specialties are going amazing too!

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT! Tonight the K2 kampers get an amazing chance to hear from Dr. Joe White, some of you might have heard of him before :)! Kidding! He is speaking tonight about purity! Please moms and dads pray for your precious daughter...no matter what her past is or is not...no matter if you want to pray or not...PRAY! The world is yelling and screaming sexually driven messages every single day at them in schools, friends, magazines, shows, movies...it's everywhere! Please pray that your daughter's heart would rally around the promise that the Lord loves her so much and that waiting for her awesome Prince Charming is SO WORTH IT! I pray that they would have vision of their future wedding day and desire to walk in purity until then! Goodness, can you tell this is a passion of mine!

July 22...

Hey Kanakuk Parents and Friends,
Well, I have just been a bad blogger! 2 days and I'm so sorry! I know for you all this is like a life-line to your girls! Now that I'm having a little girl in November I am totally aware and again so sorry :)!!! Okay so here is the run down of the day!

Verse: Luke 9:23: "Then He said to them all: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."

Morning/Afternoon: Normal Higher Ground day here at K2. (I actually was gone this day for a day with my hubby). The girls had periods 1-6 with their Higher Ground specialty.

Night: TRIBAL WARBALL: This night is a blast! The girls have a huge warball tournament with Kickapoos vs. Kiowas. I believe the Kiowas won the overall tournament. We also after the tribal games have the campers play our counselors. Obviously the counselors have a huge disadvantage since there are only approx 50 counselors and 250 kampers. So they play 3 games: 1st one: the counselors have 3 lives (counselors won), 2nd one: the counselors have 2 lives (counselors won), then the 3rd one: the counselors have 1 life (kampers won!). We have some buff staff who LOVE warball so it was so fun!

p.s. I did not participate in Warball...just in case you are wondering if I was placing the little girl Robbins in danger :)!
