Kanakuk K2 Party Breakdown Part 1 of 5...

Hoedown Showdown
(13 Day Terms 1,3,5) (All 25 Day Terms 1,2,3)
Well alright cowboys and girls—the work is done, the livestock is put away, and the sun is setting. We’ve sawdusted the dance floor and tuned up the jukebox so it’s time for an old-fashioned, boot-tappin, girl-twirlin’, flag-unfurling par-tee! This summer at Kanakuk put on your softest denim, your scootin’ boots, and whatever “hoedown headwear” best portrays your own prairie personality. So brush up on your square-dancin’, your horse-shoein’, your corn tossin’, and your trail-bossin’ because this party is not for those fancy city slickers—it’s time to unleash your inner “John and Jenny Wayne” and enjoy a night of rural Americana so patriotic it’ll make the apple pie proud! You can call it a hootenanny, a social, or a barn-raising--we call it the HOEDOWN SHOWDOWN—and you do not want to miss it “pilgrim!”

PARTY BREAKDOWN:
Costume Ideas: From extreme to casual...cowsuits (homeade or bought), overalls and boots, prairie woman outfit, an old moomoo (like the black/white one I'm wearing in one of these pics) with boots and some freckles, modest jean skirt (you have to wear shorts under any dresses/skirts at K2 and it can't be all crazy short crazy girls! Modest is hottest...ow, ow! Pig or any farm animal, sheriff outfit, cowgirl (again not all trashy, keep it clean/classy girls!)

Example of a BAD costume: short skirt, tight or belly showin' craziness, nothing, tshirt and jeans...come on people, costume parties are so fun! See below for a bad costume.

Examples of Good costumes: See below.
Hope this helps and I'll be doing each party over the next week or so. Comment if you have questions or any other suggestions. Oh, man, this makes me ready for Kanakuk K2 2010 RIGHT NOW! Yee-haw!

Be awesome, love Jesus and costumes are fun,

Oh, Spring please Sprung...

Hey Kanakuk Girls/Parents/Random people...I feel myself in a in-between state of nothingness for the blog. I am starting to switch gear to "summer blogging for kanakuk k2" which entails the daily verse, morning/afternoon schedule, night time activity, and prayer requests for your parents to know what is happening in "real time" as opposed to having to wait for your letter that may or may not ever arrive. So I feel as if these last 2 weeks (The Robbins' gang moves out to K2 in 2 weeks...WHAT IN THE WORLD??) will be rather random...so prepare yourself.

So today...my hands are numb (due to the coldness of my office) and I have 3 layers on. The sun is trying hard to peek through the sky but it is just a tid bit chilly. Now please don't comment to tell me I should be grateful for any weather because it is from the Lord...I at the heart do realize this fact...but the desire of my heart is I'm ready to throw on my nike shorts, tshirts, and my classic modest 1 piece and hit the gates of K2...no makeup, sun shining, and pure friendships.

So sun and summer please hurry here.

Be awesome, love Jesus and ready for my tan,

Almonds are Delicious...

Hey Kanakuk Kuties,
Well, today I have absolutely nothing inspiring to blog on...maybe I do but I just don't feel inspiriation through my magical typing fingers so you get a blog on my new favorite snack...dry roasted almonds! Yum Yummy!

Try them...your life will be changed.

p.s. I am in no way being paid monetarily to blog about almonds. I have no contract with emerald and receive no perks to saying my love for them. Just in case you were thinkin' otherwise.

Be awesome, love Jesus and eat an almond,

Oh, Quit Torturing Me Hannah/Miley...

Hey Kanakuk Girlies,

Well this afternoon as I am working I am pondering truly deep theological issues to blog about that will radically and spiritually change your life forever. Well, today...the deep issue is does Miley/Hannah (who knows who to call her, Hannah or Miley?) leaves California for Tennessee or stays in Cali? I mean Disney Channel has been teasing me for so long...is she crying because of her horse getting lost or because she is truly leaving. Oh, Hannah/Miley why do you tease my heart so? I am just in excruciating (spell check?) anxiety to know the answer to your riddle you have rhymed me for weeks. You twist your vague preview web even more by releasing it on DVD early and sadly I have almost run out to find the date and time that DVD will be dropped off to all the stores around the nation. I would push little 10 year old girls aside to be the first to see the alternate ending you keep rambling on and on about of which guy she will pick. There are so many decisions you have carelessly thrown into one episode. Be careful with the hearts of viewers who can only handle so much.

So Hannah/Miley...I must know...do you stay or go? Which guy will be your rock star/guy next door? I must go get my herbal vitamin to calm my heart rate back down to normal as my anticipation for this episode is just too much.

Be awesome, love Jesus and Tennessee or California,

Kanakuk Ashley Robbins / ashley@kanakuk.com

p.s. I actually think that the DVD or show may have aired by now...but I have not seen it so to me I am still waiting in anxiousness although I do know that scripture says not to be anxious...forgive me. So if it has aired...well, I'm just being silly anyways.

Name the K2 Slip-n-Slide

Hey Kanakuk Girls!! Hope you all are having a great Monday! We had our K2 Leadership Weekend this past weekend and it was awesome! Whitney Turner was our official photographer so I gotta wait to post pictures till she tags them on Facebook. It was a blast and I am getting more and more pumped for Summer 2010!

Okay, so hopefully 2 weeks ago each of you (your email if we have it and your parents email) got an email from me about the K2 Slip-n-Slide contest. Anyways, if you have a creative name for the new K2 Slip-n-Slide (cooler than picture above) you can follow that email link I sent you or you can email me and let me know what you would name it. It's going to be a slip-n-slide down cardiac (under zipline)...how awesome is that going to be!

Thinking of each of you today! Can't wait for you each to get to K2's gates!

Be awesome, love Jesus & name that slide,

The Save Heard Round the World...

Oh, American Idol Fans, was last night intense or what?? I must admit I was 100% shocked at the bottom 3 and even more shocked that Michael Lynch was bottom 1. What in the world? In my perfect world of opinions of American Idol bottom 3 should have been: Katie (it's time girl...it's time to go), Aaron (I just think you are too young and your dancing is so very awkward that I change the channel), and Tim (you are getting better and are joyful but it's also soon time for you). The one kicked off should have been...well, any of those 3.

But Andrew & Big Mike should never be in the bottom 3 at this point. Seriously people! When Big Mike was singing and they were showing his sweet wife...oh, my goodness how can you not adore this guy! The judges made my night when they used their save. I think it was wise and good timing...great timing! Big Mike for 1 more week at least!

So to Tim, Katie, and Aaron...I love your hearts and even like you but it's time...mostly because I don't want any of my other favorites to be kicked off before you 3...that would just not be right. I mean let's be honest I'm confident Simon Cowell reads my blog to know how to judge the singers. Simon, holler at me and I'll give you some wisdom for next week.

Be awesome, love Jesus and long live Big Mike,

American Idol Thoughts...

Hey Kanakuk Girls!!! How we doing today? It's Wednesday...Wednesdays seem like great days. Anywho, so last night was Idol and the themes was the Beatles. I like the Beatles but do not want to claim to understand or be a major Beatle fan. I thought overall the night was good. I feel like I like each of them now (except a certain 17 year old girl that I am still bitter that she is still on the show...Lily it should have been you!...however she is getting better and I agree with Simon that she should not be R&B but country...long side note) so at this point it gets tough to know who is going home and really I hope each of these folks do well. But here are my random thoughts for you to enjoy or get mad at because you disagree:

1. Siobhan Quirky Magnus: I sort of have lost my enthusiasm of her. I still think she is just cool but I don't know if I would like buy her album.
2. Big Mike: Still a fan.
3. Lee Deeeee-Wiiiizzzzyyy: I would 100% buy his album! Love his voice! Different and cool!
4. Andrew Garcia: Add as a fan, check!
5. Aaron Kelly: would not be sad if he went home soon
6. Casey James: not sure if I like him or not...feel like he has better hair than some of the girls and it's awkward...good voice.
7. Crystal MommaSox: adore! She is so different but I must admit I don't know if I would run out to get her album but would love to see her play live in a small coffee shop setting.
8. Katie Stevens: you are getting better but I just still am not a huge fan. I am very sorry.
9. Tim Urban: why are the judges so hard on you? poor guy gets harrassed for smiling and i think it is just nervousness and you are having a ball. So more power to you! I do think he has great weeks and a good voice but probably will be gone soon.

So there are my thoughts. My predictions for bottom 3: Tim, Katie, and Andrew (now bottom 3 will start to consist of people that I do not want to leave). Kick-off: Katie (I can hope...and I'd be ok with Tim)

Be awesome, love Jesus & Simon is the only real judge,

When Friends Move On...

Hey Kanakuk Friends,
Oh, the word "friend" is so very dear and a word that bring tears to my eyes this week. Have you ever had a dear, dear friend move away? I realize I am 29 years old (yep, I'm 29...holler!) and I feel like I am in 6th grade and losing one of my bestest friends. At 29, I realize that friends are going to move and life and my little bubble of a world will change. I realize it but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

So today, I will call Jane to hang out or walk or something to simply be around her before she leaves on Friday morning. We have had so many memories and she is a woman I want to each day be more like. Here are some of my favorite memories:
1. Kelly Clarkson...no need to type more.
2. Dressing in "costumes" for a midnight movie
3. Our love for crafts...you are actually good at them, me...I need to keep learning.
4. Our talking...I mean no one else finishes my sentences and talks as fast with me.
5. Wicked...we must go again if it comes to Chicago! Sweet Memories! It's at 2 pm...AHHHH!!!
6. Musicals in general...love you Margo!
7. The Cottage...bathroom buddy!

Okay, so I could keep going through #500...but I shall stop. Kanakuk girls, I pray you have great friends. Friends that challenge you, encourage you, speak truth to you, and love you. I have been blessed with just that for many years and I know Jane and I will continue, we'll just have to use our night time free minutes now.

If you have great Godly friends...then PTL (Praise the Lord!)...if you don't, be praying that the Lord would lead great friends into your world.

Be awesome, love Jesus & hears to you Jane,

Being the Green Gummy Bear...

Well, first of all, all you Kanakuk girlies I hope you all had an awesome Easter with reflection on the fact that He is Risen (he is risen indeed...does every church do that little saying?), lots of time with family, and maybe a fun easter egg hunt.

This morning I awoke bright and early for our 7th/8th grade small group that Katie Hurst (K-Life Branson gal and K-Kountry leadership) and I co-lead. We are going through Ephesians with the girls and it's been awesome. This week we hit on the Holy Spirit...

"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession --to the praise of his glory." ~ Ephesians 1:13-14

Well so this verse speaks of being sealed with/by the Holy Spirit...which then made me ask the girls, "What does the Holy Spirit do in your life?" (Insert: Silence and the hum of the coke machine in McDonalds). They just weren't sure...and maybe you aren't either.

So tying it all back together to the gummy bear picture...we are to look, be, act, speak, live DIFFERENTLY. I always say the Holy Spirit lives in my gut...when I choose to sin there is that moment when my gut turns and I know I'm doing something wrong. That's the Holy Spirit pulling at you. (Please no theological comments about Holy Spirit in my gut :) You sweet girls should look different than this world. You should walk away from gossip...you should desire to dress to point people to Jesus not your body...you should feel the twist of your gut when you walk by your mom and preceed to slam your door only to see all your laundry folded nicely on your bed and you should go out and say thank you and hug her. You should because the Holy Spirit lives in your girl! You are different. Be that...be different.

p.s. I adore Haribo Gummy Bears...and now because of the picture I like want them! Wish they grew on trees...

Be awesome, love Jesus and be the green gummy bear,
