June 29...

Hey Moms and Dads,
I am actually out of kamp for some great time with my hubby but wanted to still let you know the download of the girls day.

Verse: Philippians 2:2: "Then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being on in spirit and purpose."

Morning/Afternoon: It was a normal day of Higher Ground schedule. The girls are all roaming for their 6 periods a day with the same group of girls (ex. all basketball girls will go together to 6 periods a day and only 3 of them are actually doing basketball and then the other 3 are fun activities). We have 1 more day after this of the Higher Ground schedule then the kampers begin their individualized schedule.

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT! Joe White, our owner and K2 lead director, is speaking tonight on Creation. It is an awesome message to show kids truth about what schools are teaching on evolution. Joe has facts, quotes, and notes on his talk. Kids soak it up and it is so neat to watch their faces and Joe brings truth in a creative way.

June 28...

Hey Parents and Friends,
Well, June 28th was the 1st Sunday of Term 2/3. At K2 we LOVE Sundays! We have an optional breakfast for kiddos from 9-10 am and have church at 10:30 am. So kampers and staff can sleep in on this one day till 9:45 am if they want! It's amazing! Our kampers just LOVE it! Then we have koffee kake for breakfast and fried chicken for lunch! 2 very long standing traditions! Here's the scoop of the day...

Verse: Luke 9:23: "Then He said to them all: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."

Morning: We had K2 church with the most beautiful scenery! Our church looks over the lake and is just a million dollar view! We had 2 staff folks share their stories/messages and they did an awesome job. Then your daughters have time with their counselors in FCA Huddle groups. From there they head to their cabins to write "chicken" letters. A chicken letter is a letter to whoever sent them to kamp to say thanks and to tell them how things are going.

Afternoon: We had a Tournament of Champions afternoon mixed with laid-back feel. Kampers could play in 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, 4-on-4 sand volleyball, washers tournament, but also had a pool party with sno cones and Saved by the Bell in our air-conditioned girls gym. I asked about 100 of the girls what they thought of the day and they said it was the best Sunday ever! Yes!!! I love it when we can get teens to love hanging out and being normal teenagers!

Night: TRIBAL WARBALL! Tonight it was Kickapoo vs. Kiowa in tribal warball! I think the Kickapoos won the big tournament. We then play kampers vs. staff. I must admit our staff LOVES playing warball. We play 3 games and the first game the staff have 3 lives, then 2 lives, then just 1 life. To my surprise the staff won all 3 games! It's always really fun and the kids get all painted up in war paint. So cute! Again I am so thankful for the FUN of K2. 16 year old girls can be just that, 16!!

June 27...

Hey Moms and Dads,
Here is the run down of the day. The first couple of days are nuts for me so I am sorry I am late in getting this up to you...

Verse: Ephesians 2:8-9: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God, not by works so that no man can boast."

Morning/Afternoon: The Higher Ground schedule continues. Really this morning was our first full morning and afternoon of classes. The first 2 days are so full that it's nice to have a normal day. I am not sure if any of you get "mom, come get me" letters in the first week...give it time! Don't panic! The first few days in any new place, or old place, can be hard as you get to know new people. Remember God has specific purpose in bringing each kamper here and it was no mistake that you signed them up for this...that purpose might be shown to your sweet daughter in a few days or a few years...but we know there is a purpose each gal is here! What a promise!

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT: Well, my awesome husband spoke tonight, Shay Robbins (http://www.shayrobbins.org/. He has a blog for K2 guys, but really only blogs in the summer every once in a while). He spoke about Revelation 21 and a little of 22. I love how God shows us such awesome details of Heaven, our prize and goal. Shay really had a heart to inspire to live as Paul who pressed on towards the prize which God had called him heavenward. I sum up the talk by saying, "I hope we all as passionate sold out followers of Christ put on our heaven goggles every day." Do we live in light of eternity, with an eternal perspective? How differently would life look if we truly strived for that each day!

Sure hope you are having a great time with an empty nest, full house minus 1 (your daughter), or vacationing, or just hanging at home checking this blog! Thanks for any prayers! So blessed that you have entrusted your daughters to us!

June 26...

Hey Parents and Friends,
Well, Term 2 has begun with a BANG! It's been such a blast! I must admit having new kampers roll in brings such an energy that after 13 and 25 days does dissipate a little. So it's very rejuvenating. Here is the run down on the day:

Verse: John 14:6: "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Morning: Well it is day 2 of the Term 2/Term 3 kiddos which means they run around all morning doing a swim test, buying Kanakuk clothing, and getting a cabin photo taken. We also throw in all these fun games to bond as a cabin and get to know personalities! I got to run the "Crazy Relay" station and it was really fun watching your kids bounce on these huge balls and do the wheel barrow races and so much more.

Afternoon: We started Higher Ground. Higher Ground is the first 5 days of the beginning of the 25 day terms. So they can choose a fun Higher Ground that might not be offered during after the 1st 5 days...example: scuba, sea & ski, cheer, fin & feather. So the girls went to their first classes. After the first 5 days is when the individualized schedule begins.

Night: PARTY #1: MAN VS. WILD. This party is so awesome! We have a fun game where they are all dressed in camo or crazy animals so they run around to get clues to find hidden people all over kamp. I ran a station that was like a "laser" maze you had to have 1 person from one cabin race against another person from another cabin and so they had to not touch the string (lasers) so not to add 2 seconds to your time. Lots of fun!

Hope moms and dads you are enjoying the blog! Remember it's just a small snapshot into the world of K2 girls side! I would ask that you pray each day for your daughter's heart to grow in this special place! I sure love locking arms alongside of you to raise a Godly generation of women!

Hey Parents and Friends,
Well June 25th was destined to come! And here it is! We say BYE BYE at 9 am to Term 1 (25) and Term 2 (13) and then HELLO to Term 2 (25) and Term 3 (13) at 2 pm. What a day!

For new parents checking the blog because you now have a K2 girl...WELCOME! For those leaving me...I'll miss you and please check during the year as I continue to stay connected to K2 girls and write articles for parents and stuff that is a good conversation for you to have with your daughter!

Would love any prayers for the day! It's emotional as our staff and kampers say bye but then exciting as the Lord has more work for His glory with the next set!

June 24, Term 1 is done...

Hey Parents,
Well I'm not even sure posting this on June 26th if the parents of Term 1 month and Term 2 2 weekers will still check it but what a term! The awards night was a blast! The weather was...umm...a little warm but it was so fun to see all of you hear to be with your kiddos! I pray you have had such sweet time as you drove home and now sitting at the breakfast nook with your daughter to hear all the fun memories and all the Lord did in her heart. Oh, that's my prayer for you as moms and dads!

Today I have had several emails about how busy summer is from parents and friends of mine that aren't connected to Kamp. I simply wanted to encourage you as parents to make summer a slow time for your teen. I know that is easy for me to say as I don't have teens or maybe don't understand. But I do understand this. I meet with a lot of girls who are exhausted! They are straight A's, have a camp every week to stay in shape for their sport, and are involved with everything under the sun. A lot of times the pressure to be all to everyone is from themselves. So as parents and I hope and pray you fight for your child to rest...for them to be 15, 16 or whatever teen age they are. They don't have to have the perfect resume at 14 to get into the perfect college. (this is not a post to allow your kiddo to lazily live life either so I pray you hear my heart through my typing). Play with them...go canon ball in the pool...go to the mall and get matching 80's scrunchies...invite her friends over for a fun pink pajama movie night (pink lipstick, pink pjs, and Pretty in Pink movie...go hiking...just play and make memories with your daughter!

I hope the memories she has from K2 this summer are of laughter, joy, growth, and of a sense of refuge for 13 or 25 days! We loved 'em!

Kanakuk Ashley Robbins

p.s. I do the blog through the year (like every 2 or 3 days) with fun articles, videos, and sometimes parents focused stuff. So keep checking back!

June 23...

What in the world!? How is it really June 23 right now?? You guys come tomorrow night!!! AHH!!!! It's gone too fast!!!

What a term it's been! Thank you, Thank you, and Thank you...for letting us have your daughter for 25 or 13 days! Goodness, it has been a blast and I pray that you as a parent have had some re-coop time before the "teenage daughter" hits your house again...just kidding, but seriously :)!

Verse: Psalm 101:3: "I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me."

Morning: This morning we had 1st and 2nd periods of speciatly time and then had 3rd period to practice the tribal competition they signed up for last night.

Afternoon: PENTATHLON!!! Wooohooo!!!! I love pentathlon day! It is pretty warm today so we would love prayer for lots of hydration!!! I promise at every meal and every chance we have reminded those kiddos to drink water! I'm sure they are sick of hearing it! Each cabin signs up for the team pentathlon. Each girl picks to swim, jump rope, run, canoe, or do archery. It's a blast! The cabins really bond on this day and I always cry at the finish line...I'm so pathetic!! I just love it when kids rally together...I guess because I know the world trys to get them (especially girls) to go against each other. So I just love seeing everyone running down K2 road cheering for their 1 runner to finish! Oh, it's just awesome! Kampers can also sign up to not do the cabin one but do an short individual or long individual! We have some mega athletes!! Today, I will just be supervising. I am sad not to be doing the event but the heat mixed with 4 months preggo-ness probably wouldn't be the best idea for baby Robbins!

Night: Final Campfire. Joe White does his final "campfire" down in the tribal ring. We also announce tonight who decided to take the K2 Leadership Challenge. The Leadership Challenge is the core of what K2 stands on...and that is that every kamper that walks in to our gates is a christan leader (even if they don't know it yet). We believe that every kid has a mighty purpose for the Lord. So each 3 days we have the counselors meet with each kamper to talk through the "challenge day." The 4 challenges are Believe, Belong, Be Trained, Be Strong. Anyways, I hope your little one did it! It's not about another program Kanakuk does but really about a decision between them and the Lord to be a christian leader back home and dare to dream.

Window to their World,
Kanakuk Ashley Robbins

p.s. See you all tomorrow around 5 pm!

June 22...

Hey Moms and Dads,
Well, the chaos is about to start rolling!!! Is it so odd that I love the chaos of the last few days? The kampers are sad but excited to see you all (and probably have their cell phones, ipods, facebooks, back at their beck and call). I just know the Lord has moved in hearts this summer...for that we feel thankful!!! Here is the rundown of the day...

Verse: 1 Thessalonians 2:8: "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us." (Side Note: I love this verse. It is the anthem of what we do here at K2.)

Morning/Afternoon: Well, it is good 'ole summer time at K2. We are getting some high temperatures so our pool and lake are hoppin' all the time! We had a day or normal schedule and it was great. We opened up the pool during F.O.B ("flat on back" = rest time in their cabin) because it was just the kind of day you wanted to just play in the pool all day long! It was great!

Night: Final Tribals. The Kickapoos and Kiowas met for the last time tonight and got to sign up for the tribal competition they wanted to do for tomorrow morning and just get some closing time with their princess and tribe. (oh, yeah then all K2 had an ice cream sundae! yummy!)

June 21...

Hey Moms and Dads,
Well, another Sunday! Oh, glorious Sundays!!! I must admit that being preggo this summer for the first time makes Sundays even more glorious because I, too, get to sleep in! Woohoo!

Today was great. Here is the run-down...

Verse: Matthew 28:19: "Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."

Morning: K2 church was beautiful! The Lord has given us just perfect weather! It was warm but yet there was a perfect breeze! 2 staff folks shared at church and it was awesome! The kampers then get some hang time with their cabins and a chance to write "chicken letters." We share each week on Sunday to write a letter to whoever sent them to K2 and say "thanks" and share with them what you have been doing and prayerfully learning.

Afternoon: Chillax day! The word chillax is the word chill and relax smashed together. All the kampers said it was one of their fav days! They got to be moved around all day, not by walking up and down cardiac hill, but on a people mover. They could float out to our coke floating dock and enjoy soda of their choice. They could go on fun boat rides and also come to our K2 pool for sno-cones and fresh fruit! Yummy! The pool was open with the rings, trapeze, diving boards, and lay out time. It was a blast!

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT! Tonight (I am about to head there) Don Ford is speaking. I think the other day (for June 18) I had said it was Don. Well, we had to change that so June 18 was when Joe White did the purity talk for the 2nd 13 dayers and Kevin Harrison, our awesome programs guy, did a message to the 25 dayers. So tonight is actually Don's message called "It's How You Finish." Would love prayer that kids hearts would be attentive and open for the Lord's gentle voice. Thanks!

I love this pic above. This was from the pj party night. Each night we have Flag at K2. It's a fun time but also a time of reverance to honor our soldiers, past and present. We lower the American Flag each night and it is just great. Before we do the flag lowering, we have a guy cabin and girl cabin each night that makes up a song (they do it to a tune of another song and make up their own lyrics). They have to always be edifying and they are just the cutest songs sometimes!!! One of my highlights each day! Make sure to ask your girls about what her cabin sang on flag night!

June 20...

Hey Parents and Friends,
I cannot believe 5 days remain in our Term 1 25 day term!!! It's so weird how fast the summer goes! I'm sure for some of you all that check this you are thinking, "Ashley, it's been so slow and I miss my girl!" Hang in there sweet moms and dads! You will see them so soon! I hope you all are coming to the K2 Closing. I will post the schedule of that soon...but summary is that hopefully you can all be there at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24th. It's going to be so fun. For parents that have come to K2 before we have really changed up our closing ceremonies to make it a bit shorter and just great family time!

Back to June 20th...here is the run down...

Verse: John 8:31: "To the Jews who had believed Him, Jesus said, 'If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciple." SIDE NOTE: I got to speak at Backwoods today. Each day we have a leadership gal share for 7-8 minutes before the girls have their devo. I would love to be joined in prayer that kids when they come to Kanakuk know that the same God that is here at K2 is the same God that is in their precious hearts. I realize we put a bubble of protection that I love that they get for 13 or 25 days from the world and all the messages but I want them to always know that salvation is not accepting Kanakuk into your heart but accepting the truth of the gospel into their hearts. I love that this ministry calls upon the Lord for protection and soft and willing hearts. I pray your daughter has experienced the LORD by way of Kanakuk...that we would only be the vessel.

Morning/Afternoon: We had a crazy day! A lot of our staff were gone because we had several fun trips go out today. We had our "SuperDeal trip" which is cabins 19 & 20 that are our oldest monthers that get to spend a fun day that is planned by several of our leadership folks. I know that the trip this year included lots of yummy food, fun putt putt, the K1 party barn, a drive-in movie (K-rated of course!), and tons of fun! We also had our "UnReal Deal" Trip. These are our oldest 13 day kampers. They get to hit the dock and get to go tubing, skiiing, etc with just their cabin...super special! They get to grill out steak and chicken and finish the night with coke and candy! Quite the treat at K2! The day was normal as far as schedule goes. We did have to have a 6th period pool party b/c we were a little short staff with all the trips...but who doesn't love a pool party!

Night: GIRL PAJAMA PARTY!! Probably my favorite night of kamp (which makes me sound very un-spiritual :)...but the girls can wear K-rated pjs to dinner and then we head to the girls gym (it's air conditioned...woohooo!) to watch a movie. It was a blast! The girls bring pillows and just turn into precious 11 year olds as they all laugh through a movie. It was just so innocent...a word that I wish all of them could get back at this age!

I pray you have liked the blog and that it has truly been a window to their world at K2. We are so thankful for all our mommies and daddies that entrust your most prized possession to us for 13 or 25 days!
