What Every Little Girl SHOULD Hear...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
My heart has been heavy and excited to blog lately. The hubster is out of town so I'm just now getting a chance. I have been with my two precious ones and just so wanting them to know all these core messages I want to write upon their little hearts. As I thought about the 2 sweet ones that stare back at me with no words in reaction since they don't speak (besides the mumblings of a 14 month old), I wondered how many of you have these messages because you had a mom resounding them into you and how many of you don't have these messages because your mom hasn't told them to you, isn't around, or has passed away. With all those thoughts I wanted to be a voice to tell you the core messages I think every little girl needs to know. I want to blog on this at least once every 2 weeks...cross your fingers that I actually do it.

Message #1: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. I heard the other day that this generation more than anything else wants to be complimented. More than ANYTHING...just to be complimented. I watch our little firstborn clap her hands together (her newest accomplishment) and stare at her daddy waiting for his reaction. I remember myself twirling around and around as a vent made my Sunday dress poof open and look like a princess. As I twirled I prayed that I was seen by someone to say...You are BEAUTIFUL. So to all the little girls out there, remember today that you are beautiful. Your sweet smile, you dimple that is only on your left cheek, your scar on your left knee from trying to jump a fence, your curly hair that is cray cray when you wake up...everything about each of you is beautiful. You are made in the likeness of Your Creator! His beauty illuminates in everything about you!

Moms and daughters go through stages...stages of dependence, avoidance, rebellion, friendship, advisor, and on and on the cycle goes as life goes. Sometimes moms can say things they don't really mean...example: "Are you going to fix your hair?" when it's already fixed. "What about your other outfit?" when you are dressed for the day. "Why don't you go work out?" when your jean size changed. The words come out of their mouths and your heart breaks. Mommas, catch these words. Stop them. You HAVE to be your daughters loudest voice of beauty (you and daddio). Shout their beauty with notes, whispers as you sit in church, never negative looks comments in front of others...be her biggest advocate of beauty!

So today, each little girl remember that. Remember those 3 words when the world says otherwise.

Jesus Loves You...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,

What makes us forget this simple statement...Jesus loves me or Jesus knows me and still loves me (even better!). What makes you forget? I forget when life seems too much. I forget when things are on the mountain and all is well. I forget when I have everything under control (so I think). I forget when I just can't let go of my own control. I forget when I feel so guilty with how much I screw up. I forget when I can't believe the unconditonal love of Jesus. I forget when I want my way.

What makes you forget...

The Amazingly Perfect Planner...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
Girls, I am just over the moon excited about my new planner! Ya'll it's awesome!!! I promise I am not getting paid at all for this promo for this great etsy seller! I just love the planner! It's a bit "mom" oriented but they can change the format to work for the school year and tweek the designs a bit. Anyways, that's my planner above but it has an "R" for Robbins instead of the "E." I sat on the couch last night and wrote in birthdays, events and the girls' doctor appointments. I only write in pencil to avoid messy mark outs...how OCD am I? It's okay, I have embraced it!

Anyways, if you need a planner I highly recommend this store! It came to my door and it has a scripture on the back of the planner which made me even more in love with this store and seller. She has small, medium and large planners and these super cute journals to match.

Is it sad/pathetic that I get this excited about planners...hmm?

Planning for Summer 2011...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
Well, I just got home today from a K2 Kabinet Meeting (Joe, DJ, Don, Trish, Shay & I). I love these meetings. We all get together, catch up, pray and then start planning for summer 2011. We literally started these meetings in September, right after summer 2010. As I got home today I was feeling anxious for summer. Anxious because I treasure this place so much. Anxious because I want every gal and guy that walks through those gates (or technically drives or rides through) to have an incredible, sweet, grace filled moment with Jesus and a fantabulous time.

Today we started dreaming up some really cool new stuff. If you aren't signed up for summer 2011 then you are cray-cray! It's going to be rock your socks off amazing! Head on over to www.kanakuk.com to register!

Just be You...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
Don't you hate it when you have conversations when you realize just how insecure, confused and lost you are. I have had one of those recently and I was left with wise words..."Just be You." Wow! What a message. It is so powerful, yet so very simple. Three little words that tell so much of the Lord and His fingerprint on all of us. Just be ME...me that was made by the Father who loves me...me that sometimes is the funny, quirky and random one...me that at other times is the quiet and reserved relationship one. Just be YOU...what does you mean to you? (that could sound confusing so read it twice if need be).

Coming to grips with who the Lord has made you to be is a journey I believe. One that is daily evolving as you learn your gifts, quirks, and passions. Keep walking in the journey of discovery with you and your Creator. Be secure in all parts of you...even the quirky ones! (how many times did I refer to quirky or quirks...so funny!)

Carpenter Ashley...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
I love this sign. In a former life (if those were real) I would love to go to carpentry school. I'm not really sure there is such a thing but I just would LOVE to know how to make stuff, build benches, use wrenches and know what a miter saw is or better yet know how to spell it.

So be inspired my friends that have dads with tools and sawdust under their fingernails. Go out there and learn. Learn how to do those things. I wonder if there is one of those Carpentry for Idiots type book. (Just found this on amazon! Hysterical!) This post is proving to be one of my most random...rock on randomness, rock on.

Never Grow Up...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
I got Taylor Swift's new CD for Christmas and let's just say I am a bit obsessed. I know she is like in her 20's and I'm in my something older than that...but I still am confessing on this blog I just adore her! Anyways, on her CD she has a song called "Never Grow Up." I am not sure if pregnancy hormones are just still in me or what but I ball like a baby every time I hear this song. Just thinking about our 2 munchkins growing up...I can't even type it without crying.

I am not sure if the K2 girls' moms read this blog anymore but this post is for you mommas and for the girls too. Daughters remember that your moms/dads/grandparents or whoever raises you thinks this way about you. You are their most prized possession on this earth!

Our 2 munchkins...you aren't allowed to grow up! The pause button for humans will be invented and perfected by the time you are 5 years old.

"Never Grow Up." Taylor Swift

Your little hand's wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
To you everything's funny, you got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart
And no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At 14 there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots
But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older too
And don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
No one's ever burned you, nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to, just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said
And all your little brother's favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder that I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up

Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
I could still be little
Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
Won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to, please try to never grow up
Oh, don't you ever grow up
Oh, never grow up, just never grow up

Empty Frames...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
Oh, the joys of owning a home. I LOVE our little humble abode in good 'ole Branson, Missouri but it has been a very slow process to get it together and probably will take several years to really get it like home. But for now we love the no art on the walls, no desk, no coat rack (oh i found this super cute branch coat rack that I am praying Mr. Robbins will make for me!), etc, etc.

So this morning I laughed as we have 3 picture frames that are super cute in our TV center dealy. Inside 2 of them is the graphic design of the company I bought it from and in the other frame is a vintage picture of a little couple leaning on a truck. Everyone always thinks it is one of our grandparents...nope it's the models!

Join me my friends in empty frames in your home! How do you pick the pics to go in your frames in your room? I hardly print pictures anymore due to iPhoto. Do you print or are you all digitized too?

EVERY...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
This summer our staff will be studying the book of James. I am so excited to go through this book with our staff. I started reading and studying through it for this semester before kamp and it has already (chapter 1 is all I have even gotten through and not even the whole chapter) been so refining for me. This morning I read James 1:17. (see above). The word that stuck out to me was EVERY. Debbie Jo (our sage of wisdom in Bible studying) would be so proud of me with picking a key word. Every person, every conversation, every possession, every THING...is from the Lord. What a reminder that is! I sometimes question the Lord's leading or things in my life...but wow, this verse hit me like a ton of Ugg boots (not sure that makes sense but just throwing in some comic relief...maybe I'm the only one laughing! That makes me laugh harder).

Step back from the rush of getting back into your semester, already worrying about grades, extracurricular activities, and the hub of your social life and look at life and remember, really abide in this fact, that anything good in your life is from the Lord! It's just so awesome!

Enjoying Life...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
The question on my mind today (and thus, I'm passing it on to you all!) is this...

Are you enjoying life?

This question makes me laugh because the back story of it. When I dating Shay, my dad (who is a pastor and deep thinker) called me and asked, "Ashley, are you enjoying the relationship?" Well, I just died laughing because it was just so funny...the wording of "enjoying"...I am still laughing!

Now, please don't go all theological on me. I am 100% aware that this place (Earth) is not our home. We are too long for heaven. With that being said, the Lord made us for a relationship with Him and relationship with others. So within those relationships are you enjoying them? Are you laughing at your dad when he comes out in short shorts and calf socks? Are you spending a Saturday watching your little brother/sister's favorite cartoons? Are you surprising your mom by kidnapping her and heading to the local coffee shop to just talk to her and maybe even ask her about HER? Are you calling your friend that you just have thought of a lot lately to tell them you are praying for them?

Think of the most important people in your life...are you enjoying those people?

K2 Girls, start facebooking them both to tell them that they better be back for summer 2011! No pressure...yeah right! Pile on the pressure! :) Seriously, I'm kidding...sort of!

New Title for New Year's Resolutions...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
So it's 2011! Crazy, huh? (I'm quite nervous typing now that I know the Grammar Police is possibly reading this...I'm so confident I'm blowing it already!). I, like I shared earlier, was in bed by 10:30 pm on New Year's. What can I say I have a newborn. Surely that counts.

As I think of the New Year it does make my heart and soul stir with the idea of goals, resolutions and random thoughts. I know some hate the fact that it takes a New Year to reestablish goals and such, but for me I don't mind it. I think it is good to re-evaluate life and ask yourself, "Self, how's your heart?" I'm sure each of you asked yourself that exact question. Right?

Sometimes all this soul stirring can create an idea that everything about your days, your life and you need to change 1,000%. That my sweet friend is not what needs to happen. See comic below.I am definitely not saying you are perfect, GASP from some of you, but I am saying that some of you made a list in your journals or facebook or whatever of your resolutions and they were all about changing you...your weight, your friends, your who's dating who, your clothes...I wonder if the New Years Resolutions wouldn't be better titled..."How do I continue in 2011 to feel and know God's love for me and how, in turn, do I show that to others?" I know it's not as catchy, but that could be a subtitle.

So today make a new list. Throw away the one with numbers of weight loss, concerts to see this year, or the boy to kiss at Prom. Make the list of TRUTH in the form of God's love in your life. Sure think the world of each of you! Keep walking in truth, love and grace.

Here's to 2011! May it dazzle us forever...
