Welcome K2 Friends...

{source}
Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
Well, most of you might be checking this page out for the first time because I sent out a mass email to you all. During the summer months your parents check on KanakukAshley because I let them know what all is happening in real time as opposed to your super slow snail mail. So they love it!

BUT now with summer over the blog becomes a connection site for K2 girl kampers. It's random, random, funny, random and sometimes serious. It just is supposed to feel like a little part of kamp that you can check in on every day. Comment me with any suggestions of posts you want me to do or you can always email me. Either way I want this to be fun and a way to keep us all connected while we are away from HOME...K2.

Happy Labor Day...

{source}
Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
Well, HAPPY LABOR DAY! I honestly don't know the history of this super fun, no work (or school I think?) holiday...so I googled it.

History
The first Labor Day in the United States was observed on September 5, 1882, by the Central Labor Union of New York[1] It became a federal holiday in 1894, when, following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, President Grover Cleveland put reconciliation with the labor movement as a top political priority. Fearing further conflict, legislation making Labor Day a national holiday was rushed through Congress unanimously this and signed into law a mere six days after the end of the strike.[2] The September date originally chosen by the CLU of New York and observed by many of the nation's trade unions for the past several years was selected rather than the more widespread International Workers' Day because Cleveland was concerned that observance of the latter would stir up negative emotions linked to the Haymarket Affair, which it had been observed to commemorate.[3] All U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the territories have made it a statutory holiday (SOURCE HERE)

Just wanting to make sure Kanakuk Ashley is educational...as I type this I have an awkward smile on my
face.

Oreo Cake Balls...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
Honestly, I'm giggling thinking I have blogged about Oreo Cake Balls before...I just can't remember. But I'm pretty sure I have. Well, I blog today about them b/c I recently made them. See above...HAHA! Yeah right?! Who do you think I am Rachael Ray? I leared great lessons this round...
1. these things are sugary...most of the time I eat the batter and feel fine...Oh glory these things are rich in deeelish!!
2. i did not crush the oreos enough. my oreo balls look more like oreo jagged edge shapes.
3. i did not have wax paper so therefore there is a lot of sticking to the plates/pans/me/bowls/spoons...just lots of sticking.
4. they are still yummy...unattractive but yummy!

Have fun making these sweet treats with...your mom, dad, grandma, aunt, friend, brother, sister, cousins, roomates, sorority sisters, person you meet in grocery line (i joke!) or whoever else...

Coffee Break with...

{source}
Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
I just love these kind of questions...here are mine. Grab your momma, friend, brother, or random person at the grocery store and ask them who would they want to have coffee with?

Side Rule #1: I am not going to put Jesus on the list. There are too many theological thoughts that could come from that.
Side Rule #2: This is for people I could not typically have coffee with. They have passed away, famous, not in my typical realm of hang out and drink coffee.

1. Reese Witherspoon. Wow. I'm starting so deep. She is just precious. I honestly think we would be good friends. She's a mom, I'm a mom. She's blonde, I'm blonde. She has been through this famous life but still seems just good ole southern girls...or at least that's what I want to think. Please don't comment and bust my bubble if that isn't true.(Oh, goodness, if her agent/publicist like sees every time her name is mentioned are they going to flag me as an "obsessive fan?" Just great.)

2. Spike White. I never met him. I hear all the kamp legends speak of Spike, his sayings, his work ethic and just the stories he had.

3. Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Going deeper here. I love her. She is iconic and was married to one of my most favorite presidents.

4. Bethany Hamilton. This one feels a bit in the moment that I just watched her movie and it was awecrepic so I just have her story in my brain. Random!

5. Mosab Hassan Yousef. He is the author of Son of Hamas. It is a book about him growing up muslim and very much in the world of war we are in today. He comes to know Jesus and it is truly a gripping book. If I had coffee with him I would need my husband, best friend Jennifer and google so I could figure out all the stuff he was telling me.

6. Francine Rivers. My two favorite books outside of Scripture is Redeeming Love and the Mark of the Lion Series. CHANGE.YOUR.LIFE.AWESOMENESS. She is an amazing fictional author and I just think it would be so neat to have coffee with her to simply ask about her life.

Runners Up: Steven Spielberg, Hannah from the Bible, my Pappa, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Chandler (and his wife cuz that would be weird if it were just he and I) and some others...sorry that there aren't the typical christian: John Piper, C.S. Lewis, etc...there books take me like 7 years to read b/c every page I have to read 10 times and have the hubs explain to me. So coffee would just make me feel like an idiot, not on their part but b/c they are so Harvard spiritually.
