Tangled...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
(*after typing this I am adding this side note: this post ended up being more about my top 5 Disney movies rated according to their villian and how scary they are...what can I say? As a mom that is the angle I watch and think now)

I recently FINALLY watched Tangled....WOOOOOOO---LAAA-DEEE---DAAAA---HOOO!!! I heart this movie a lot. I loved the characters, the music and the little lizard dealy thing. I just thought it was so cute.

I thought after watching it I would tell you all my favorite disney movies...well, just top 5:
1. Tangled...I know it's new and it's not considered a "classic" now but I loved it. The villian wasn't scary and they hardly showed her in the "I'm the mean villian" look. I loved Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and adored the guy that does the voice of the guy (Flynn, Eugene...I would have stuck with Flynn). I love the lanterns and love the total predictable Disney princess movie feel to this. It was time for that!
2. Beauty and the Beast. Well, I have a child named after Belle...just kidding. We didn't name our secondborn from a Disney princess...promise. I love the music in this one...epic and classic! I love Belle and how she is different and loves books. Again, I like that the villian isn't a "scary" looking person (i consider the villian to be Gustan...spelling?).
3. Cinderella. Oldie but goodie. I love the animals in this one and love the mice...guss, guss. Again the villian is not super scary (evil stepmother) and the princess and kind and loving...and the dance where they fall in love is just priceless.
4. Mulan. Again, one of my favs...although my villian in this one is a bit scarier. Love her courage and bravery for her family in this one.
5. The Little Mermaid was my fav growing up but I must admit now as a mom I'm not sure because the sea witch lady is, well, scary to me and I'm 30. I love the music and again when I was in, ahemm, high school, this one was my fav.

So there you have it...obviously my kids affect my top 5 as I love the Disney movies that are totally Disney princess movie but with "not so scary, squiggly legs, weird vudu, sorcerery" villians. Oh, ps...I think Aladdin is probably tied for #5...not as scary as the sea witch villian but scary bird :)!

The Princess Within...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Gals,
Oh, to wake up and be a princess...every girls dream right? Oh, come on, admit it! I mean "Princess Diaries" in real life would be just unbelievable...I wonder if it's ever really happened in real life! I'll google it...

Anyways, so why Princesses? I guess today I just wanted to do a random post (I am sure you are so devastatingly surprised) and just say how much fun it would be if we could still wear the ball gowns and have classy dances like balls. I have a friend, I won't mention names but she used to be a worship leader at K2 with her hubby, who is living out the dream by being a princess at a certain theme park that would have Disney Princesses! Ahh!! I mean how fun is that!!! Again, even if you are too cool for everything and think the Disney princesses are so lame-o, I really think deep down if given the chance with the dress, wig, makeup, and a day at the park to be the princess for all these little 3 year old precious smiling girls you would love it! We all would.

So today, just remember you are one! Quit trying to be 26 years old and all grown up with clothes, sunglasses, handbags and the latest boots...just be YOU! The princess He made you to be...and okay if every once in a while you throw on a tiara and a ball gown that's perfectly okay too! Haha!

(Side Note: I would for sure want to be Cinderalla...hello, blonde hair and blue dress to match my eyes...Which one for you?)

(Second Side Note: I just realized the title sounds very deep and heart deep...but it's just a random post on Disney Princesses...sorry for the let down. Hopefully you all laughed or smirked or reacted in some type of "oh she's cool" teenage way)

Miley Cyrus...

Oh, goodness, fellow Kanakuk girlies I could be walking a very fine line. I was bombarded today with articles on every search engine about Miley's new video. I want to be so very careful in this blog to by no means cast judgement or gossip. I hesitate with each letter on my keyboard...but I also feel as if I should blog on this to simply focus on ONE comment that made it very clear I had to blog on this. Whether you love Miley/Hannah...I must admit I love the precious Hannah Montana reruns they are doing on Disney right now...but I must admit it scares me how hard she is trying to get away from innocence...Friends, innocence is a great thing. Anyways, that's a whole different post.

I watched the video this morning and just was sad. Not mad, not frustrated and not even sadly surprised...I think I am sad because this path of bodies, walking the line with moves in this video, and shots of close faces (I'm putting all these very simply as opposed to what they probably actually are in the video) truly makes me sad, not in a judgemental way but in a way that the world is just so loud and appealing. I hate that most of you might even watch this and think "She looks great or sexy," "I love this video, it's so cool," or "I want to be her...money, fame, clothes, guys." I read the lyrics of this song...and once again I just was sad. I know it's just Miley Cyrus...but she is holding the banner of Jesus. The same Jesus that loves her and made her innermost being. The same Jesus that wants her body to be His and someday her hubbies...not flirting with lines of up close shots with guys and girls. Pause, I ramble...again, my heart is not judging...so I will stop and simply focus on the quote from a comment left on a site:

I have a confession. I could not even remotely bring myself to watch this video…The explicit details behind its content is enough. Once again, our Southern “Christians” turned rocked stars are at it again, professing being saved by Jesus and holding onto their virginity. First, it was the pop princess Britney Spears 10 years ago, then the preacher’s kids, Jessica and Ashlee; and now, should we be surprised, the Cyruses have sold their daughter into virtual prostitution. I believe in Jesus, too, and I’m a wild girl, but I never professed my virginity, nor pretended to be a faithful follower at every turn. I hate the hypocricy these “wanna be Christians” bring to the table. Just admit that you would rather follow the money than God. I would respect that honesty far more than the unbridled c*#p you all have been selling.

I don't know what gal left this but if I were to dream up a character I would say it's a gal that knows Jesus but is "wild." She sounds like she has gone through some "stuff," whatever that might be. And what made me sad was that from her comment if feels like "christians" have let her down time after time. She wants to see an AUTHENTIC woman who loves the Lord...or don't claim it and "follow the money."

I pray today that each of you, as the world yells so very loudly to look sexy at 12 years old or to dance this way at prom this year or to have an attitude that you dominate the whole world...well, I just pray that you would remember God's Word...

Proverbs 31:30
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

Philippians 4:8
Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure...think about such things.

Psalm 27:4
One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple.

Be awesome, love Jesus and be ALL HIS,
