Break Anyone?...

{source: Pinterest. Couldn't trace original}
Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
Doesn't this picture make you just want to lay in the sand with golden waves...just me? Weird.

We loved our turkey break but December is starting to have the call of the wild...ya know what that wild call is calling...It's almost Christmas break...yeah, there is a call...listen carefully...

Okay, no call...but Christmas break is coming. For some of your college crazies you have already begun. Don't rub it in. For most of you high schoolers...you got some time to go. So buckle in to those chairs that are so not comfortable in your english lit class and drink H2O (that's water. I'm so not a fan of all those crazy energy drinks that have large animals on them) and tune in. Your brain wants you to, I promise.

The breaks coming...

Please Learn to Cope...

{source}
Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
Coping is like a soap box for me (I do know what coping means but not the phrase "soap box"...hmm, interesting?).  I, being a licensed professional (joke!), think I can solve the world if this generation could simply learn and execute how to cope...

Please don't get all huffy and start snorting like a rhinoceros about how it's Jesus...for me and this blog that is given. We need Jesus, grace and love...desperately. But even great kamp kids come through every summer and I walk away from conversations wondering why are they coping with _____ (fill in the blank) but doing the strangest and most illogical form of harm, thoughts or lifestyle choices. I mean horrible...sometime honestly so odd that I have to watch my facial expressions to you all...I get scared by it. I get all, "Jesus, come back please!" Somehow I think that coping has been lost in dealing with life and teaching this generation to do so. My mom tells me about some of her interactions with parents these days in the education world and it baffles me...truly! It's somehow never the child's fault in anything with papers, tests or quizzes...Have we yanked all chances for our child to cope with failure or hurt or not getting what they want...

I, by no means perfect, have already started to tell the littles (the ones that can understand me at this point) that they don't always get what they want. I continue and say "you should learn this about life now." The ways the enemy is showing you all to cope is just scary and horrific and harmful and filled with LIES. When you get left out, you take to drama queen role and get all crazy gossip girl. When you get a bad grade, you manipulate it to miscommunication of teacher student role or the teacher doesn't like you. When you get a broken heart, you don't go get ice cream and listen to Celine Dion (not that I did that, ever, really) but you desperately, and that is not a good desperate, hit the tweet airwaves and beg for him to come back or threaten that all life is lost for your soul.

Desperate souls need desperately a Savior to make them not weird desperate. Quote that folks...it's deep. To cope with hurt, fear, anxiety, loss, or whatever comes our way means we do it with authenticity...we lay in our mom's lap when a boy breaks our hearts and we cry. We tell our friend that is hurt our feelings to be left out on Friday when she invited everyone but you over and however she responds we move on in forgiving her whether she asks for it or not knowing she maybe isn't the friend you thought...side note: move on means you can still smile at her and be around her but you don't unfriend her publicly on instagram and unlike all her pics. See healthy coping versus unhealthy.

Please know I am not speaking to deep hurt from sexual abuse, loss of a parent, or deep scars. I worry that this generation puts not getting 200 likes on their new profile pic in the same category of these deep wounds because of the coping issue in our world. I always tell folks I think we all need some good counseling (not like the weird life coach stuff where they tell you to do whatever you feel and stupid statements like that) but good someone ask me great questions and remind me of Jesus, His love, His grace and His story for my life counseling.

Please...learn to cope. Learn to fail and do it well. Learn to embrace the bumps in your story and know that they hurt for a bit but they do heal. Learn that a bad day does not equate to a horrible life. It's just a bad day...

Why Kamp is More Important Than Ever...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
I know that some of you are shrugging your shoulders because, of course, I think that Kamp is so important...I work here, we love this place. But really I think even if I didn't do this, work here, that I would still be saying this...so why?

My husband just texted me this morning that K2's enrollment is looking pretty good. It was fun and exciting to think about all those little beds being filled with hearts that just need a refuge. Teen culture is saturated, so so so saturated, with pressure, social media, school, and just life. To come to a place that, most of the time at first begrudgingly to the teenager, takes phones, iPods, iPads and all the technology that is consuming them. It's breeding this shallow culture that doesn't know how to say HELLO when introduced or if they do that that's about as far as they know to go. Kids need Kamp. For adventure, for social interaction, for the love of Jesus, for, yes, even the trial of making new friends or being new to something...Kids need Kamp.

As I type this my heart is totally torn because I am already that momma that is dreading the day when my littles aren't so little and kamp is reality...I pray I come back and read this...whenever that age is (this post is mostly directed towards junior high and high school aged kiddos).

Remember most of you will not go to the NBA, WNBA, NFL, or any other professional athletic field...so why 5 basketball camps, why 3 soccer intensives...why? Build into the character of who you are...the woman you desire to be in the blink of LIFE we have here....You need Kamp!

Well, Hey There March...

{source}
Hey K2 Kanakuk Friends,
Well, March is here. When did that happen? Isn't it still October of 2012...oh, it's not. Okay, moving on.

March is always a month of down time (Spring Breaks usually) and this little pull in my stomach that kamp is right around the corner. Now, don't get me wrong I love that kamp is soon but for a director it also makes us realize that is a lot to do in a very small amount of time. But let's be honest I work best under the crunch of a deadline!

March...what does it look like for you? (it's interesting to pose a question at the end of a post as I expect no replies to it but yet it seems like the only way to end this post? Odd...yes.)

August 6...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Parents,
Well, it's been beautiful weather around here after the few days of rain. Today was just gorgeous. It was very sunny but the humidity was down! Praise the Lord! This preggo woman swam today with Triathlete with her clothes on (I forgot the ole bathing suit so just rocked my tshirt and shorts)...that is how much the pool feels amazing!

Devo: Reread Esther
Verse of the Day: Philippians 3:14

Morning: Normal morning of classes.

Afternoon: normal afternoon of classes.

Trips: no girls cabins are on trips.
Treetops: girls 3 & 4.

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT! Dr. Joe White will be speaking tonight! His title is "Hunger Games" and honestly I am going to sit in there tonight to hear his message. I haven't heard this one yet this summer. I'm sure it's amazing! This is our last K-Life of the summer! What in the world!

I cannot believe this term and how fast it has gone. A quick update from last night...it was the most powerful CrossTalk. The bell (we have a bell that kids can ring to symbolize them giving their lives to Christ for the first time or re-committing their heart to Him) DID NOT stop ringing for so long! There was just a line of kids! It was awesome! One cabin had 6 girls come to know Jesus...that makes every crazy day out here worth it...even if it was just for those 6 gals. It was just so powerful and that is only because the Lord was so present! Thanks for your prayers!

August 5...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Parents,
Less than 1 week...wow! This is always a surreal moment in my world as we start to think of closing down but yet it feels like in some ways we just opened yesterday.

I will be posting closing ceremony schedule on here soon so you can have all the details. We do everything on Friday night. All that Saturday has is early wake up for kampers to clean their cabins super duper well and then breakfast for them and then you pick them up.

Devo: none.
Verse of the Day: none.

Morning: Sleep in late, optional coffee cake breakfast, church and then a long time to hang as a cabin and also write letters to you all.

Afternoon: CHILLAX TO THE MAX! Chillax Sunday is always a favorite but today we are amping it up. We have trams from the dock to the pool so they don't have to walk. Fresh fruit at the pool. Sno cones at the slip-n-slide. A floating dock of coke, dr.pepper that kids can float out to in the middle of the lake. All in all it's like the best day ever!

Trips: none.
Treetops: none.

Night: CROSSTALK! This is a huge night! We have an amazing crosstalk with the theme of Passover being what we center it around. We have 4 kampers sharing their stories about when Jesus became their Passover Lamb of their own hearts. Then Joe reenacts the crucifixion and then we give kids time to worship, sing, pray and for their hearts to open up to Jesus. It is a powerful night and if your daughter doesn't know Jesus please join with me in praying for just that...salvation. That has been a key word for my summer. I feel like it's on the tip of my tongue at all moments...please just join us in praying.

Sure can't wait to see all of you!

August 4...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Parents,
Well, it continues to be an amazing term...I did forget to mention we had quite the storm blow through on Wednesday (I blogged a bit ahead and so am just now getting to real time). Anyways, we had 3 rounds of hail in a matter of 2 hours. All kids were safe and are safe but if your child was on the lake/dock it was pretty crazy. But again all is safe and Joe, Shay and the dock daddies were AMAZING!!!!! It was like a well oiled team out there that was working to risk, well, risk safety of themselves for all the kampers in the middle of the lake. It was just amazing to see afterwards how the Lord preserved us! We had some branches down but none hit cabins or people. It cooled kamp down a bit and again everyone is safe!

Devo: Genesis 50:20, Deuteronomy 23:5, Psalm 30:11, Romans 8:28
Verse of the Day: Romans 8:28

Morning: normal morning of classes 1-3.

Afternoon: normal morning of classes 4-6.

Trips: Cabins 9 and 10 are at K-Wet.
Treetops: Cabins 11 and 12.

Night: K-LIFE TONIGHT! The best speaker in the whole world! Shay Robbins!!!! WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm a bit biased and super jazzed up as I have had 2 amazing conversations of kampers asking great questions about Jesus...it's just amazing! Anyways, tonight Shay is talking about discipleship. It's going to be great...

1 week! What!!!!!

Devo: Esther 8:1-17
Verse of the Day: James 4:2-4

Morning: Normal morning of classes 1-3.

Afternoon: Normal morning of classes 4-6.

Trips: Girls 17 and 18 are still at K-Wet for 1 more night.
Treetops: cabins 7 and 8.

Night: KAMPER TALENT SHOW. This night is always a fav! Kampers signed up at lunch, try out, and then depending on how much time we have we pick a certain number of acts. It's super fun! We had singers, dancers, and lots of random random acts too! The kids laugh a ton and it's so cool to see the kampers have a night that they are the entertainment!

August 2...

Hey K2 Kanakuk Parents,
What a day! Especially since it ended with a fun girl movie night!

Devo: Esther 7:1-6 (we are studying Esther if you haven't put that together)
Verse of the Day: Psalm 18:2-3

Morning: normal morning of classes 1-3.

Afternoon: normal morning of classes 4-6.

Trips: Girls cabin 17 and 18 are headed out for 2 nights at K-Wet and girls cabins 17 and 18 are headed out for 1 night at K-Wild.
Treetops: none.

Night: PAJAMA PARTY MOVIE NIGHT! We have a movie night on the girls side. They can wear "pj's" (obviously as long as they are appropriate to wear out and still K-rated). We have an intermission and have pink lemonade and no bake cookies made for them! Yummy! It was such a fun night! It's always a good restful night too! These girls need sleep...haha!
